Three more coach companies snapped up

The consolidation of the coaching sector continues, with three more operators taken over by groups.

In East Sussex, Go-Ahead has added Lewes-based Regency Coaches to its portfolio. The operator runs a large number of school contracts as well as private hire work, and can often be found on rail replacement duties.

Most of its fleet of 16 vehicles were bought new, including a pair of coach spec Alexander Dennis Enviro400 MMCs, and two MCV-bodied Volvo B8RLEs, an Evolution dating from 2016 and an EvoRa new in 2020.

The operation has become part of Brighton & Hove's Spirit of Sussex coaching division.

In Essex, REL Capital has further expanded its presence in the county, with the purchase of Klarners Coaches, and a significant investment into Tendring Travel.

Both businesses are focussed on the Clacton area, with Klarners having an operator's licence for eight vehicles, based to the east of Colchester. It runs a small programme of day trips in addition to other work, and the current family owners will retire after a handover period.
