SUPERLOOP GROWTH GENERALLY OUTPACES REST OF BUS NETWORK BUT RELIABILITY IS A CONCERN

Transport for London’s Customer Service and Operational Performance Panel has been provided with a report on performance of the Superloop routes.

Bus ridership has continued to grow across the network with demand increasing by 2% between June 2023 and May 2024.

Following the relaunch last summer of established limited stop services X26 (Heathrow Airport – West Croydon), X68 (Russell Square – West Croydon), X140 (Heathrow Airport – Harrow) and 607 (Uxbridge – White City) as Superloop routes SL7, SL6, SL9 and SL8 respectively, all saw an increase in passenger numbers.

Use of the SL6 grew by 20%, although some of this may have resulted from restructuring of services between Holborn and Waterloo to allow local journeys to and from Waterloo. Along the whole route demand grew by 2%.

Patronage on the SL7 grew by over 90%, although this has to be seen in the context of a doubling of its frequency in August last year and an abstraction of passengers from parallel routes. Overall corridor demand increased by 21%.

Use of the SL8 increased by 18%, partly as a result of services operating earlier in the morning and later at night. Once extended operating hours are taken into account, the net increase was 1%. Alt…
